January 2023 Palettes

I received my big order of Colorverse and Noodler’s ink and have narrowed down the options to create the palettes for this month.

None of these are colors I have used before, so this is going to be an exciting month for all of us, as I try them out myself, too. I’m pretty excited about some of them. And for the creative palette, we have some inks that layer and some inks that thin, which should make things exciting for writing, drawing, and brush work.

Since I only have small subscribers in the business palette, I’ve reduced it to three colors this month, which makes decision paralysis easier! Once I get other subscribers, I’ll go back up to picking 5 colors.

But before we get to the inks for this month…

December 2022 Palette in Action

Beverly Hall submitted a lovely painting she made with the inks in the December 2022 palette.

I LOVE that winter miracle one, but they all do a lovely job.

Thank you, Beverly, for sharing — I’m floored by this, it’s gorgeous!

The Colorverse Grey and Rainy Day inks are on the lighter side with some shading in them. Rainy Day is a bit drier than the other inks in this set, so it’s going to work better in a pen with a good feed or in smaller nibbed pens. They’re both easy to see on the page, so no worries about writing with them.

Colorverse nalasmalssami, from their Kingdom Series, is a very dark ink that appears black at first, but shades to teal. This would be a great ink to try in a stub nib or via brush. It does has some sheen to it, even when writing. My samples didn’t shade to teal when writing, and even on high-quality paper it wanted to feather a bit. This is an ink for writing quickly!

Noodler’s Black Swans in English Roses is the less popular sibling to their Australian Roses ink. It’s a burgundy color that has a subtle shading in the writing.

And finally, for a zap of color, Noodler’s Dragon’s Fire. This is a reddish-orange ink designed for shading. It dries much darker than it writes, don’t be fooled!

I am new to Colorverse ink, but I was very happy with the way their Office Series performed.

The colors themselves are not especially exciting – the black and blue are saturated and vibrant, the gray has a bit of shade but is nothing unexpected. What struck me about them was the way they write. The gray seems to want to write thinner than the other colors in this series, but for the rest of the colors, they’re very wet — by which I mean, the ink flows quickly and the lines are thick and heavy without effort.

This series is probably going to write quickly and not clog on you. I’m excited to load them into my work pens and try them out.
